What are the benefits to being a surrogate?

What are the benefits to being a surrogate?

The main benefit to being a surrogate mother is knowing that you are helping to change someone’s life by helping build their family through gestational surrogacy. The surrogacy experience and relationships developed during the surrogacy journey will be a part of your life forever, helping to shape those around you. In addition, many women use the compensation they have earned to start college funds for their own children or provide additional financial stability for their own families.

How much do surrogates earn?

A first-time surrogate can expect to earn a base compensation of $35,000 to $40,000. Surrogates are also paid a monthly allowance in addition to compensation for miscellaneous expenses. Compensation is higher in the event of unexpected situations or major complications during pregnancy like a multiples pregnancy or a c-section. Experienced surrogates can expect a higher base compensation. Family Makers works with each individual surrogate to tailor a compensation package that you are comfortable with.

What is the surrogacy process?

Your surrogacy journey starts with the completion of your application. After your application is received, a Case Manager will be in touch with a personal note within 24 hours (often much less!) to discuss the next steps in our agency screening process.

The agency screening process will involve collecting and reviewing your medical records, criminal background checks and a video consult by a surrogacy professional. Your insurance will also be reviewed to see if it is usable for surrogacy. Your dedicated Case Manager will take the time to get to know you on a personal level as well to be sure you are matched with Intended Parents that are similar in personality and that you have things in common with.

After you are matched with Intended Parents, you will have your psychological consults and medical screening at the IVF clinic. Once you have been cleared medically, you will enter the contract phase of your journey. During this time, both the surrogate and Intended Parents have their own legal representation to finalize a legal surrogacy contract.

When legal clearance is received, the IVF clinic is notified that you are ready to start cycling and preparing for embryo transfer. Once the pregnancy is confirmed with a fetal heartbeat, you will be released to your OBGYN for the remainder of the pregnancy & delivery.

A typical surrogacy journey is approximately 18 months from the time you complete your application process to delivery.

“Being kind and considerate of others is important to us. We surround ourselves with people that are optimistic and caring, and we are very blessed to have such an outstanding support system with both family and friends especially during this journey. We are dog people. We love the beach. We have uncontrollable excitement of what the future has in store and how blessed we are to even have this option. Our families are relieved we have made this decision and can now fully celebrate, with no worry, the next step of our lives.”

Meet J: Hopeful First Time Mom

History of miscarriage and infertility

“My fertility journey so far has been difficult but I’ve never been ready to quit. My dream of motherhood is too strong. Growing up, I imagined that one day I would get married, have children and live happily ever after. Unfortunately, I am still waiting for that particular dream to come true. All I want to do now is move forward and try one last time for my dream to become a mother I am hoping to find a match who will allow me to share in her pregnancy experience and be her cheerleader!”

Meet C+E – Hopeful First Time Parents

Medically unable to carry due to a host of health conditions that make it unsafe for E to carry a baby

“It has been my dream since I was a little girl to become a mother. I can still remember when I was only four or five years old when my cousin and I would put balloons under our shirts and run around the house pretending to be pregnant. I can still remember how happy I was at the time. Now, we hope to find someone amazing who is willing to help us. We welcome you to join us on this journey and hope that you will choose to become a part of our family. We are nervous as it is our first time yet thrilled for this to begin!”
